Diving in Padang Bai: A Must-Visit Underwater Wonderland
Padang Bai, a charming fishing village just an hour’s drive from our morning start at Bali’ Scuba, offers an extraordinary diving experience with its stunning beaches and vibrant marine life. With a rich array of underwater sights, Padang Bai is a dream for divers and underwater photographers alike.
Dive into colorful reefs teeming with marine diversity. Unique sites accessible by traditional Jukung boats feature a small shipwreck and are ideal for macro photographers. Expect to encounter an array of rare species like nudibranchs, ornate and ghost pipefish, rhinopias, leaf scorpionfish, and pygmy seahorses. Other macro treasures include warty, giant, and painted frogfish, squat lobsters, orangutan and zebra crabs.
Padang Bai also hosts a variety of larger marine life: Napoleon wrasse, crocodilefish, moray eels, pufferfish, clownfish, and mantis shrimp. Shark encounters are frequent, especially juvenile whitetip and blacktip reef sharks, nurse sharks, and the unusual wobbegong. And don’t miss the tranquil Buddha statues resting beneath the waves—a mystical addition to the underwater landscape.
Blue Lagoon is the area’s premier dive site, but there are plenty of others to explore, including Jepun, the Jetty, Turtle Neck, Tanjung Sari, the Temple, and the Channel. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned diver, Padang Bai is sure to leave you in awe of its underwater treasures.
